Security Vulnerability Assessment

After the Oklahoma Bombing, 9/11 and the 7/7 Bombings here in the UK (and more recent attempts), all have highlighted the threats to people, infrastructure, assets and business from terrorism, breaches in security and a lack of intelligence.

As in any business, large or small, risks to your organisation have to be identified, quantified and managed correctly, including threats from security breaches and terrorism. Security threats can come from internal or external adversaries. Internal threats include disgruntled employees and/or contractors, employees forced into cooperation by threat of extortion or violence. External sources include international sabotage, theft, criminals, extremists or terrorists.

The initial stage in the process of managing security risks is to identify, classify, quantify and analyse the security threats, vulnerabilities and their likelihood relating to the facility, organisation or community in question by conducting a Security Vulnerability Assessment (SVA).

HazRes’ SVA is a methodical process that evaluates the possibility that a threat against a facility will be successful. It considers the potential severity of consequences to the facility, business, workers, surrounding communities and environment and on the energy or product supply chain. With this information security risks can be assessed and strategies can be formed to reduce vulnerabilities as required. HazRes’ SVA methodology is a tool and can be used directly to assist management and directors to make decisions on the need for countermeasures to address the threats and vulnerabilities.

HazRes’ SVA process utilises a multidisciplinary team-based approach to provide a complete security analysis of the facility and its operations in order to assess threats, determine and classify present levels of security, gap analysis and develop cost-effective solutions in order to create a more secure facility. Depending on the type and size of the facility, HazRes’ SVA team may include individuals with knowledge of physical and cyber security, process safety, facility and process design and operations, emergency response, management and other disciplines as necessary.

In addition to conducting a security vulnerability assessment (SVA), HazRes has the capabilities to conduct detailed analysis of high-risk scenarios, identify effective risk reduction methods, design structural upgrades, design and conduct emergency response exercises, plans and policies and integrate security into your Process Safety Management System.

Contact one of HazRes’ consultants on +44 (0) 845 838 2026, for an informal, but confidential discussion relating to your Security and threat issues and how HazRes’ SVA process can help you and your company in reduce the risk of an incident from occurring.
